Insulation is a grant-led business. Most homeowners aren’t shopping on price — they’re asking one thing: “is it funded for me?” The installer who answers that clearly, fast, wins the work. Here’s what’s actually on offer.
ECO4
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) funds energy-efficiency measures — including loft, cavity-wall and solid-wall insulation — for lower-income households and those on qualifying benefits. It’s a whole-house scheme, so it often pairs insulation with other upgrades, and the funding can cover a large share (sometimes all) of the cost for eligible homes. ECO4 closed to new applications in early 2026 (existing measures are funded to the end of 2026), so new insulation work now routes through the Warm Homes: Local Grant below. GBIS has also closed.
The Warm Homes: Local Grant
The Great British Insulation Scheme — which funded single measures like loft and cavity-wall insulation for a broader group of households — closed to new applications and finished on 31 March 2026. Its successor is the government’s Warm Homes: Local Grant: delivered through local councils, it helps lower-income households in less energy-efficient homes with insulation and other upgrades, and runs to 31 March 2028. Availability and the exact measures funded vary by council.
Two homeowners on the same street can qualify for completely different funding. Your job is to answer “which one am I?” before they call someone else.
